No April Fools Prank, Boise Woman Wins $200,000

 

Boise – Beverly Owens had a difficult time convincing her employers why she was going to be a little late for work this morning. For Owens, this was no April Fools prank when she stopped in Lottery Headquarters holding a winning $200,000 Powerball ticket from last Saturday night’s $41 million draw.

 

Owens bought the quick-pick ticket on Saturday morning from the Jacksons Store located on the corner of Five Mile Road and Fairviewin Boise. She and her husband were on their way to Kamiah for the weekend where they are developing their dream property. They are hoping to move there in a few years.

 

“This couldn’t have come at a better time for us,” explained Owens, an 11-year Boise resident. “We are making a lot of improvements to the land, getting ready to build and we worried about where the money for our dreams was going to come from.”

 

Being a regular player, every time they stopped for gas she bought another Powerball ticket. “I had tickets from McCall and Grangeville, too,” she said laughing. “When I checked the numbers on-line Sunday night when we got home, I almost forgot about the first one fromJacksons!”

 

At first, Owens couldn’t believe what she saw. “I read the numbers then took my glasses off and checked them again and again before I started whooping and hollering,” said the exuberant assistant manager of a local mortgage company.

 

It turned out to be the winner, matching the 02, 05, 16, 36, and 40, but missing the Powerball number which was 36.  The PowerPlayoption was 2.

 

Owens was still whooping and hollering when she visited the Lottery first thing on Monday morning, making her employer a little suspicious that her good fortune was just an April Fools prank. “I’m going to take my souvenir check into work and show them!” exclaimed Owens.

 

After taxes, Owens took home a real check worth $134,400. For their part in selling the winning ticket, Jacksons received a bonus check worth $20,000.
