Classroom Wishlist is a monthly Idaho Lottery Do Good program that allows teachers to submit their classroom wishes to be fulfilled. With the help of our players, the Idaho Lottery funds up to $10,000 in classroom needs every month!

FEATURED STORY:

VR Headsets for virtual field trips for Carolyn Knam

We are seeking funding to purchase 25 Meta Quest Headsets for our students. This project will provide immersive virtual field trips that enhance the social studies curriculum, allowing students to explore historical landmarks, world geography, and cultural experiences they would otherwise not be able to access due to economic barriers.

Frontier Elementary serves a majority low-income population, and many of our students have limited opportunities to travel outside their immediate community. Field trips are often restricted by budget and logistics, which limits students’ exposure to historical and cultural experiences critical to developing global awareness and historical understanding. Virtual reality (VR) offers a cost-effective, accessible alternative to physical travel that can bring the world to our students.

These devices will be used primarily in the library media center or classrooms during history and geography units. Through partnerships with platforms offering immersive educational experiences (such as Expeditions Pro or Wander), students will virtually visit sites like Craters of the Moon National Park, Independence Hall, the Egyptian pyramids, or the Amazon Rainforest.

Teachers and the librarian will work collaboratively to align VR content with state curriculum standards. Students will engage in pre- and post-trip activities to deepen learning, including reflective writing, research projects, and group discussions.

Our goals and outcomes are to increase student engagement in social studies through immersive learning and improve understanding of historical events, cultural practices, and geographic concepts.

This will also provide equitable access to enriching experiences regardless of students’ financial backgrounds.
