$1,000,000 Powerball Winner Still a Mystery;

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô It's been 27 days since the town of Irwin, Idaho sold a Powerball PowerPlay ticket worth $1,000,000. The holder of the ticket remains a mystery. As of this morning, Idaho Lottery Headquarters in Boise has not received even a single phone call related to the winning ticket. The holder of the ticket from the March 6, 2010 Powerball draw has until Thursday, September 2, 2010 to claim their prize. The winning numbers on the ticket from the March 6, 2010 draw were 10, 29, 33, 41, and 59. The Powerball number was 15.

"As we've said, this ticket is unique. It has the PowerPlay option and matched the first five numbers, just not the Powerball," re-iterated Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. "Too often we've seen players think their ticket is not a winner because it did not match the Powerball number itself."

The Powerball jackpot for this coming Saturday night is an estimated $103 million.

In July 2008, a $200,000 winning Powerball ticket that did not match the Powerball number itself but all five other numbers expired and went unclaimed. That ticket was sold in Malad City along the Idaho-Utah border in late January of that year and did not have PowerPlay.

A $600,000 winning Powerball PowerPlay ticket from Rathdrum in northern Idaho in December 2007 took eventual winner Alice Massey 73 days to claim. She admitted not checking her tickets for weeks even though she knew someone from her town was holding a $600,000 winner.

Last year in Idaho, approximately $1.5 million in Lottery draw game prizes went unclaimed.

"In addition to some big top prizes, there are always scores of smaller prizes on all our draw games and Scratch games that go unclaimed," added Anderson. "Unclaimed prizes at the end of the fiscal year ultimately become part of the annual dividend we return to the State of Idaho."

In addition to the mystery $1,000,000 winner from Irwin, the Idaho Lottery also has $195,000 in unclaimed top prizes on Scratch Games that recently sold out and another $44,600 in unclaimed prizes from last fall's Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle.
