Buhl Couple Wins "Accidental" $50,000 Powerball Prize

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô Lee Taylor sent his wife Jodi to Avid Sportsman in Buhl in mid-April to buy Powerball tickets for the $210 million draw on April 17. Jodi admittedly had only bought one Lottery ticket prior to this and when asked for the PowerPlay option by the store clerk, she agreed.

"It was really more of an accident than anything," said Jodi sheepishly with a grin when she and Lee were at the Lottery Headquarters claiming their prize. "I guess we'll be playing the PowerPlay option more often from now on."

The Taylor's ticket matched four numbers and the Powerball, making it worth $10,000. But with Jodi's "Ooops" on the PowerPlay (the PowerPlay number for the night was 5), their ticket became worth $50,000.

"That's a $40,000 accident!" exclaimed Lee with a big laugh. "As far as accidents go, this was a pretty good one."

But that's not the end of the story for the life long couple from Buhl. Lee was unaware he held the $50,000 winning ticket. "I kept it in my truck for about a month before Jodi convinced me to get it checked. Glad I did!"

For their part in selling the winner, Avid Sportsman will receive a bonus from the Idaho Lottery worth $5,000. This is the third large winning ticket this year bought at Avid Sportsman in Buhl. In January, a $200,000 Scratch ticket was won at Avid, and in late March, the Buhl retailer sold a $20,000 winning Double Play Daily ticket.

The Taylor's will use their winnings on home improvements.
