Jackson, Wyoming ER Group Claims $1,000,000 Powerball Prize

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô For years, Connie Baumer has been leading a Powerball club made up of Emergency Room staff from the St. John's Medical Center in her hometown of Jackson, Wyoming. On a return trip from shopping in eastern Idaho nine days ago, she stopped in the Stinker Store on Yellowstone Highway on the northeast side of Idaho Falls to check her group's Powerball tickets from the night before.

"There were twelve people who had put in money for the last draw. We had $12 in winnings, so I asked the clerk to give me a ticket for $12," described Baumer on purchasing the ticket. "I got six lines of play. It was the middle child that won!"

Baumer, a middle child herself, was referring to the third line of six on their Powerball ticket. That line matched all five of the first numbers, but not the Powerball, from the Wednesday, July 24, 2013 drawing.

Using the Idaho Lottery's "check-a-ticket" app for her iPhone, Baumer and co-winner Cheryl Hewitt checked their numbers and saw they had a winner. They then repeated the process using their tablets and the winning numbers posted to the Idaho Lottery's website. Again, the result was the same, the first five numbers all matched.

"I didn't know how much we'd won at first then Cheryl told me it was a million dollars," said Baumer.

"I still don't believe it," added Hewitt of Irwin, Idaho, even after she received her real check.

This winning Powerball ticket is the largest ever for residents from Wyoming. It is the third million dollar prize paid by the Idaho Lottery since July 10, 2013 and the 44th million-dollar or higher winning ticket claimed in the Idaho Lottery's history.

Stinker Stores will receive a bonus from the Idaho Lottery for $20,000 for their part in selling the winning ticket.

Only three of the twelve members in their group made the journey to Boise to claim their prize. Joining Baumer was Hewitt and Kim Morse of Jackson, Wyoming. The other winners were Gary Baumer, Jackson, Wyoming; David Bender, Victor, Idaho; Elaine Garrison, Jackson, Wyoming; Karen Lisenby, Jackson, Wyoming; Andrea Mathers, Auburn, Wyoming; Maureen Miller, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Christopher Morasco, Alpine, Wyoming; Daniel Nelson, Jackson, Wyoming; and, McIntosh Sullivan, Victor, Idaho.

They said most of their plans were to pay down bills and debt with their winnings.

"We did save enough from our winnings to buy Powerball tickets for another year, so hopefully we'll win the big jackpot on Wednesday night," Baumer said.

With no jackpot winner last Saturday night, the estimated Powerball jackpot for Wednesday, July 31, 2013 is $235 million.
