Lewiston Man Turns Luck Around with $50,000 Scratch Ticket Winner

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô Just about two weeks shy of his 19th birthday, Andrew Evans from Lewiston got an unexpected, $50,000 early present from the Idaho Lottery. Evans, who has been out of work for two months due to an injury and had recently been in a car accident about two weeks ago, picked up a Slingo Trio Doubler Scratch GameTM ticket from Neighbors A-1 Market and Gas in the Lewiston Orchards area late last Thursday.

"I was in a hurry, so I only scratched the bar code and had the clerk scan it to see if it was a winner," described Evans. "The clerk told me I'd have to take it to Boise. Then I scratched the game and realized it was a blackout. The big winner! I was like, 'Whoa, that's cool.'"

Evans made the five-plus hour trek to Boise late on Friday to claim his prize with a friend. Powered by Cheetos and Mountain Dew, the pair made the return drive to Lewiston on Friday night after picking up the check at Lottery Headquarters.

"We might stop for dinner along the way back," he confessed. "I don't want to blow it all though. I want to get a new truck maybe, but this is really going to help me out."

Evans' luck has definitely turned around.

For their part in selling the winning ticket, Neighbors A-1 Market and Gas will receive a bonus from the Idaho Lottery of $6,000.
