Utah Group Claims $1,000,000 Powerball Prize

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô For the third time in less than six months, Idaho Lottery players from Utah have won $1,000,000 on a Powerball ticket sold in southeastern Idaho.

Michael Baca of Ogden and a group of co-workers were the winners of last week┬┤s $1,000,000 winning Powerball ticket. The winning ticket matched the first five numbers but not the Powerball and was sold at Kwik Stop in Malad City near the Idaho-Utah border. Baca and his group are no strangers to winning big on Powerball with the PowerPlay option. In November 2010, the same group matched four numbers and the Powerball and won $50,000 on a ticket purchased from Kwik Stop.

"I guess the third time will be the charm," laughed Baca when he claimed the winnings with a few of his group members. "We┬┤ve come close twice, maybe next time we┬┤ll get the jackpot."

Each of the 10 members of the group received $100,000. Baca said many of the members were planning on using their winnings to pay off debts and pay down their mortgages.

For their part in selling the winning ticket, Kwik Stop in Malad City receives a bonus of $25,000. This is the largest winning ticket ever sold by Kwik Stop. They are the third retailer in southeastern Idaho to sell a $1,000,000 dollar winning Powerball ticket since December 1, 2010.

There was no Powerball jackpot winner on Saturday, May 21, 2011, although there were 8,462 Idaho winners. The jackpot for Wednesday night is an estimated $144 million.
